Nasa Develop

The DEVELOP Program is part of NASA's Applied Science Program designed to addresses environmental and public policy issues through interdisciplinary research projects that apply the lens of NASA Earth observations to community concerns around the globe.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN NASA EARTH SCIENCE AND SOCIETY, DEVELOP BUILDS CAPACITY IN BOTH PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS TO BETTER PREPARE THEM TO ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES THAT FACE OUR SOCIETY AND FUTURE GENERATIONS.

Based on a framework, DEVELOP participants at the Fort Collins node begin each ten-week term by conducting literature reviews on the scope, methodologies, and types of NASA remote-sensing data applicable to individual project. As the projects progress, participants acquire and analyze Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote-sensing data forĀ  real-world applications in collaboration with organizations that can benefit from enhanced decision making tools. Each DEVELOP team creates the same set of deliverables including a poster, presentation, technical report, and video as the program puts an emphasis on building capacity to communicate project results to a variety of audiences and end users. Participants also partake in personal development activities like personality typing and team building exercises, as well as networking with scientists and partner organizations. For more information
